How it all started
If you told me four years ago I’d be building a golf website, tracking my stats like a Tour pro, and chasing a dream to reach scratch. I probably would’ve laughed. No, I definitely would’ve laughed.
I didn’t grow up around golf. I grew up in the North Inner City of Dublin, where golf wasn’t even on the radar. We played sports that were accessible, Gaelic football, hurling, and soccer. I wasn’t raised on private club fairways or junior lessons. Golf always felt a bit too posh for someone like me.
One day, much later than I care to admit. I picked up a club and hit one pure strike. You know the one. The shot that feels effortless, sounds perfect, and hooks you for life.
That was it. One swing, and I was obsessed.
At first, it was just a weekend thing, a few mates, a few laughs, and a lot of lost balls. (Goodbye, ProV1s.) Something about golf grabbed me deeper than any other sport ever had. It wasn’t just the competition. It was the challenge, the reminder that you can always get better if you’re willing to put in the work.
Then came the moment that changed everything.
Somewhere between the frustration of bad rounds and the addiction to improvement, I realised golf wasn’t just about getting better at the game, it was about getting better as a person. The discipline, the patience, the mental battle it all mirrors real life and if golf could teach me that much, maybe it could do some good for others too.
In October 2025, I set myself a goal: go from a 19.6 handicap to scratch in 365 days.
On paper, it sounds ridiculous, but that’s the point. I wanted a challenge that scared me, something that pushed me and meant something beyond myself.
So, I started sharing the journey online and let’s just say… not everyone thought it was possible. Some doubted me. Others wanted to bet against me.
That’s when Scratch for Good was truly born.
I decided to put my money where my mouth is. For every single shot I finish over par, I’m donating €1 to Samaritans Ireland to support mental health because let’s be honest. We all fight battles most people never see, and sometimes we just need someone to talk to.
Now, I’m documenting everything: the good rounds, the bad ones, the lessons, the early mornings, and the mental grind that comes with chasing an “impossible” goal. It’s going to be raw, honest, and hopefully relatable for anyone who’s ever tried to get better at something they love.
This isn’t just about golf.
It’s about growth. It’s about purpose.
It’s about proving that every shot can make a difference, both on and off the course.
So that’s how it all started.
One swing. One idea. One crazy dream to reach scratch. For good.
